Atlacare vs Jane App: Honest Comparison for UK Practitioners

How Atlacare and Jane App compare on pricing, data location, clinical notes and patient features for UK physiotherapists and allied health practitioners.

Jane App is a polished, well-regarded platform built in Canada and used across many disciplines and countries. Atlacare is newer and built for UK and EU clinics: priced in pounds, with data in EU regions and GDPR tooling built in.

Here's where they actually differ.

Pricing

Jane's plans start from roughly £45 a month (checked against jane.app/pricing in July 2026), billed in Canadian dollars, so the sterling figure on your statement moves with the exchange rate. There is no free plan.

Atlacare's Solo plan is £25 a month, set and charged in pounds. The annual plan drops that to £20.83 a month: 17% off, or two months free. There's also a Free plan with no card and no time limit, covering your first 20 patients.

For a solo practitioner, Atlacare is the cheaper way in.

Where your data lives

Jane hosts data in North America, according to its public information.

Atlacare stores all data in EU-region infrastructure on every plan, which keeps UK and EU residency straightforward for special category health data. Consent capture, retention, subject access export and erasure are handled by tooling inside the product rather than left to you.

Clinical notes

Jane gives you custom chart templates, and offers an AI scribe as a paid add-on. If you prefer dictating notes to typing them, that's a genuine advantage. Atlacare has no AI features.

Atlacare ships with SOAP, DAP, BIRP and ADIME note shells pre-built for 17 professions. A psychologist sees DAP by default, a physiotherapist sees SOAP, a dietitian sees ADIME. No configuration needed before your first patient.

Jane's templates are more configurable, which is useful if your clinical workflow is unusual. The trade-off is the same as with any configurable system: someone has to do the configuring first.

How quickly can you use it?

Jane is a feature-complete platform. That's mostly a strength, but it can feel like a lot when you're starting out, with several add-ons each carrying its own settings and pricing. Working out what you need and what you don't takes some time.

Atlacare is designed to be usable on day one. Online booking, clinical note shells, patient records and reminders are set up without a configuration phase. The trade-off is less flexibility for practices with unusual workflows.

If you're a solo practitioner who wants to open the software and see patients the same day, that's what Atlacare is built for.

Patient-facing features

Jane has a dedicated patient app, available on iOS and Android, where patients can manage appointments and join telehealth sessions. It's a polished experience.

Atlacare's patient portal is web-based, accessed via a magic link. Patients can view notes you have marked patient-visible, invoices, forms, exercises and upcoming appointments. No app to download, but also no native mobile app for patients who prefer one.

Telehealth

Jane includes telehealth, and it is mature and well-tested.

Atlacare's video consultations are not live yet. If video is central to how you run your practice, Jane is further ahead on this today.

Reminders

Atlacare sends email appointment reminders on every plan. SMS reminders are priced pay-as-you-go at 5p each on Solo, with an allowance included on Clinic (150 a month) and Practice (300 a month).

Switching

Atlacare imports patients, contacts and history from a Jane export and matches your practitioners for you. Your Jane account stays untouched until you're ready to switch fully.

Scale and track record

Jane has a large user base across many countries and disciplines. That means more reviews, more community resources, and more practitioners who can share experience with you. Atlacare is newer, which means a smaller community and a shorter track record.

If you want the reassurance of a well-established platform, Jane has it.

Which one suits you

Jane makes more sense if you want a mature, feature-complete platform, use telehealth regularly, prefer a dedicated patient mobile app, or want AI-assisted note transcription.

Atlacare makes more sense if you're a solo practitioner or small clinic, want pricing in pounds with an annual option and a free plan to start, want your data in EU regions by default, or prefer a system that's ready without a setup phase.
