Atlacare is patient management software built around how acupuncturists actually record care: a TCM-SOAP note with the ten questions, structured tongue and pulse diagnosis, a pattern differentiation and a repeatable point prescription, ready before the patient lies down.

  • Acupuncture is not statutorily regulated in the UK; in practice it is governed by the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) Codes of Professional Conduct and Safe Practice, a PSA Accredited Register (acupuncture.org.uk)
  • The BAcC code requires accurate, comprehensive, contemporaneous and dated case notes, including consent to treatment and relevant medical and family history (acupuncture.org.uk)
  • Needling and premises are also subject to local authority registration under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 (gov.uk)

Case notes that meet BAcC expectations

Atlacare is built around the BAcC safe-practice requirements rather than certified by anyone. The default acupuncture note captures what the code asks for, so a BAcC member is compliant by default.

  • Consent to treatment and to adjunct therapies (moxibustion, cupping, gua sha, electro-acupuncture) is recorded on every note.
  • Single-use disposable needle confirmation and a contraindication check are built into the safety section.
  • Notes are contemporaneous, dated and signed, and lock with a version history so your record is defensible.
  • Relevant medical and family history, including GP details, and the lifestyle advice you gave, are captured as the code requires.
  • All data is stored in EU-region infrastructure and handled under UK and EU GDPR.

Designed for acupuncturists

TCM-SOAP notes

A Western SOAP scaffold with the Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnostics you actually use: the ten questions, tongue and pulse diagnosis, pattern differentiation and treatment principle, all structured rather than free text.

Point prescription that repeats

Record the points you used from an autocomplete of the most common points, with code, Chinese name, laterality, depth, stimulation and retention time. Next session, pull the last prescription forward and adjust.

Tongue and pulse, structured

Body colour, coating and shape for the tongue; rate, quality and position for the pulse. Structured fields make change over a course of treatment obvious, for you and for audit.

Safety and consent, built in

Single-use needle confirmation, a contraindication and caution check, and consent to acupuncture and adjunct therapies on every note, in line with BAcC safe practice.

Everything on one patient record

The clinical detail sits alongside the day-to-day running of the clinic.

  • Online booking with automatic email and SMS reminders to cut no-shows
  • Invoicing and online payment, with insurer-ready receipts
  • A patient portal for forms, consent and rebooking without a phone call
  • Recalls for seasonal or course-of-treatment follow-up

From first consultation to follow-up

Consult and consent

Take the case history and the ten questions, confirm consent and screen for contraindications, all in the safety and subjective sections of the note.

Diagnose

Record tongue and pulse findings, reach a TCM pattern differentiation and set the treatment principle.

Treat and prescribe

Log the point prescription and any adjunct therapies, note the rationale and de qi, and give lifestyle advice.

Follow up

Each session pulls the last prescription forward. Progress against the pattern is documented, ready for review or referral.

Frequently asked questions

Does Atlacare use TCM-style notes?

Yes. Acupuncture defaults to a TCM-SOAP note: a Western SOAP scaffold plus structured Traditional Chinese Medicine fields, the ten questions, tongue and pulse diagnosis, pattern differentiation, treatment principle and a point prescription. It is built around BAcC record-keeping rather than certified by anyone.

Can I record the points I used?

Yes. The point prescription field lets you select points from an autocomplete of the most common points, with code and Chinese name, and record laterality, depth, stimulation and retention time. You can carry a prescription forward to the next session and adjust it.

Is Atlacare BAcC-compliant?

Atlacare is built around the BAcC Codes of Professional Conduct and Safe Practice: consent, single-use needle confirmation, contraindication checks, contemporaneous dated notes, medical and family history and advice given are all captured by default. Compliance remains your professional responsibility, but the record supports it.

Where is my patient data stored?

All data is stored in EU-region infrastructure and handled under UK and EU GDPR. Health data is treated as special-category data, with consent tracking, country-aware retention and full audit logging. You can export everything at any time.

Can I move my records from another system?

Yes. Atlacare imports patients from Cliniko, Jane, WriteUpp, Carepatron and Pabau, and matches your practitioners for you. Most clinics move across in an afternoon, and founding clinics get white-glove help with the switch.
