Most clinicians type the same lines again and again: a red-flag screen, home-exercise advice, the layout of a discharge summary. Save them once as snippets, then drop them into a note in one tap.
Snippets are included on the Solo, Clinic and Practice plans. On the Free plan the + Template button shows a lock and a link to the plans.
Save a snippet
There are two ways.
From Settings
- Go to Settings → Note templates. Saved snippets are at the top of the page.
- Click New snippet, or Add example to start from one of the suggestions.
- Give it a short title and type the text exactly as you want it to appear in the note.
- Choose a Section (for example Plan) or leave it as Any section, and pick the profession it's for, or All professions.
- Click Save snippet.
From a note you're writing
When a section already has text you'd like to reuse, click the small bookmark icon next to the section name (Save as snippet). The text and section are filled in for you. Tidy it up, take out anything about this patient, and save.
Snippets are reusable wording, so keep patient details out of them.
Insert a snippet
- In the note, click + Template next to the section you're writing.
- Snippets saved for that section are listed first, then the ones saved for any section. Type to search by title or text.
- Click a snippet, or use the arrow keys and press Enter.
The text goes in where your cursor was. If you hadn't clicked into the box yet, it's added at the end after a blank line. Nothing you've already written is replaced, and the note saves as usual. Press Esc to close the list without inserting anything.
+ Template works in the classic note editor and on the long-text fields in focus mode. It isn't available on a signed and locked note.
Sections and note formats
A snippet saved for a section follows that section across note formats. A Plan snippet appears under Plan in SOAP, DAP and BIRP notes. The first section is Subjective in SOAP, Description in DAP, Behaviour in BIRP and Assessment in ADIME, so a snippet saved there shows in whichever of those your note uses. See which note format your profession uses.
Mine and clinic-wide
- Mine snippets are yours alone. Anyone who writes clinical notes can create, edit and delete their own.
- Clinic-wide snippets are shared with everyone in the clinic who writes notes. Only the owner or a manager can add, edit or delete them. Turn on Clinic-wide when saving.
Reception staff don't see snippets, as they don't have access to clinical notes.
Deleting a snippet removes it from the list only. Notes it was already inserted into keep their text.
