Outcome measures are standardised questionnaires that put a number on how a patient is doing — so "a bit better" becomes something you can show. Atlacare records them against the patient and tracks the trend.
The measures
Common ones are built in — NPRS (pain), PSFS (patient-specific function), NDI (neck disability), EQ-5D (general health) and others. Each has a score and a maximum, and Atlacare stores the percentage so different measures compare on the same scale.
Recording one
From the patient's profile, record an outcome measure with its score and the date. Take the same measure again at review points — the record keeps every reading, so you see the direction of travel, not just the latest number.
Why it's worth doing
Two reasons:
- For the patient and their funder — insurers and referrers increasingly want evidence of improvement, and a rising PSFS is exactly that.
- For your practice — outcome measures feed the Clinical Outcomes dimension of your Clinic Health score, so measuring progress also lights up part of your practice health.
Pick a measure that fits the condition and take it consistently — a measure taken once tells you far less than the same one taken across a course of care.
