Every clinical note has one of three visibility settings. Choosing the right one is how Atlacare keeps sensitive detail from reaching the wrong eyes — including the patient's own portal.
The three tiers
Patient-visible — shown in the patient's portal and visible to all staff. Use it for what you're happy for the patient to read: a plan, home exercises, a summary of the session.
Internal — visible to all staff, but never shown in the patient portal. This is the default for a new note. Use it for clinical reasoning you don't intend the patient to read directly.
Confidential — visible only to the treating practitioner and the clinic owner. Not other staff, not the portal. Use it for the most sensitive material — safeguarding concerns, third-party information, anything that needs the tightest circle.
How it's enforced
The portal only ever queries patient-visible notes, so an internal or confidential note can't leak there even by mistake. Confidential notes are filtered out for everyone except the treating practitioner and the owner, everywhere in the app.
Safeguarding
If you flag a patient for safeguarding, related notes are handled with extra care and set to confidential automatically, so a sensitive concern isn't left on a note the whole team can open.
Set the visibility when you write the note; you can change it later, and the change is audited like any other action.
